CAIR Coalition Detention Hotline

Immigration

The Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition strives to ensure equal justice for all immigrant men, women, and children at risk of detention and deportation in the DC metropolitan area and beyond. Tasks include working the detention hotline; day-long jail visits; and helping with translating.

Veteran's Consortium Legal Clinics

Military Veterans

The Veteran's Consortium offers one legal clinic for women veterans, and one all veterans. They are both in a virtual format with appointments conducted over Zoom. The appointments are booked at the top of the hour and last approximately 30 minutes. Volunteers will see a maximum of 5 appointments per clinic. The students will be paired with an attorney and will help find outside resources that meet the veterans needs.

Bread for the City

Poverty Alleviation

The mission of Bread for the City is to help Washington, DC residents living with low income to develop their power to determine the future of their own communities. We provide food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services to reduce the burden of poverty. We seek justice through community organizing and public advocacy. We work to uproot racism, a major cause of poverty. We are committed to treating our clients with the dignity and respect that all people deserve.
Tasks include packing food at the food pantry and helping to administer COVID-19 vaccines.

Christian Legal Aid of DC

Faith-Based Access to Justice

Christian Legal Aid of DC exists to provide access to justice for low-income residents of Washington, DC while demonstrating the love of Christ. 
Utilizing a network of volunteer attorneys, law students and other professionals, CLADC provides legal services primarily through its legal aid clinics at locations around The District.
Volunteer to work with legal clients at this ongoing pro bono legal clinic happening twice a month. The core practice areas include probate and estate planning, criminal record sealing, eviction defense and housing issues, and SSI/SSDI.

Capital Area Food Bank

Alleviating Food Insecurity

The Capital Area Food Bank leads our region’s efforts to provide equitable access to food and opportunity to people struggling with hunger and food insecurity. Each year, we source and distribute the food for over 45 million meals. Help pack and deliver food to those in need!

First Shift Justice Project

Employment Discrimination

First Shift Justice Project is working to bring about a shift in workplace culture that values not only paid employment but also the work of family caregiving. As a parent, you shouldn’t have to choose between holding a job and holding a baby. First shift periodically looks for volunteers to help with intake forms, legal research projects, and flyering.

CASA VA

Child Advocates

CASA VA provides trained volunteers to speak for abused and neglected children who are the subjects of juvenile court proceedings. CASA recruits, trains and supervises competent volunteers dedicated to advocating for the needs of abused and neglected children currently in court proceedings, who are too young to speak for themselves during the complicated maze of legal proceedings.
